From time to time, my clients tell me of a particular dilemma. The CEO actually wants to blog and to post his own stuff. The catch: He doesn't want to have to learn any new software. That's when I hand over what I call the "CEO secret," Posterous. All you or your CEO have to do is send an email with the text of the post, attaching any photo, video, audio or other file you want included in the post. They take it from there. You can also post from a web interface, but for the globe-trotting, BlackBerry-carrying CEO, this is the solution.
Recently, Posterous added a flurry of new features that make this blogging platform even more attractive and simple to use. You should follow the Official Posterous Posterous blog to stay on top of updates, but here's a roundup of some of the latest ones I like, with links to more information:
- Slide shows: You can create them via email, keep them private or make them public and much more. Any photo that's in your Posterous gallery (where they wind up when you include them in a post) can be included. Got more than one photo in a post? Readers just click on a slide show button to see them displayed that way.
- Groups: You can now have groups as well as sites on Posterous. Private is the default option, but they can be public--and the participants don't need to sign up for accounts. Just submit their email addresses, and they're in. You can respond from email, from the web interface or from your mobile device. I've tried Google Buzz and Facebook groups and so far, this is the easiest group experience I've had. Using private groups to foster team collaboration is a smart idea for your business.
- More autopost options: You've long been able to choose to send your posts to Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed and more, and now Google Buzz is among the options for sharing.
